New York: A senior United Nations official has hailed the pace of human development and the empowerment of women in the UAE and the region.

In a meeting held on the sidelines of the 67th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Rebeca Grynspan, the undersecretary-general and associate administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), discussed programmes that had enabled greater cooperation between the UN and the UAE.

Cooperation in the context of UN-sponsored development programmes in the UAE and the exchange of expertise to promote development were topics that received maximum attention.

Dr Saeed Mohammad Al Shamsi, assistant foreign minister for international organisations affairs, expressed appreciation for the UNDP’s role in promoting the process of development in the UAE, describing the Arab Human Development Report as a landmark for dialogue and a catalyst for comprehensive development across the region.
