Road improvement work nearing completion

Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah yesterday inaugurated the Al Wahda Street bridge.
Dr Shaikh Sultan visited the bridge site with Shaikh Khalid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Head of the Public Works Department, and other company representatives in charge of the project.
The efforts done by the department to develop the infrastructure and other public facilities, including the external roads were lauded by Dr Shaikh Sultan.
The department announced that the bridge will be opened to traffic shortly before midnight today.
The Dh216 million bridge took 18 months to complete since November 2008.
The Al Wahda Street improvement project will be completed by the end of September this year, said Shaikh Khalid.
The department head asked all those in charge of completing the project, to step up their efforts in completing the rest of the project according to the highest quality standards, as the project is vital and a very important in the emirates infrastructure.
The Al Wahda Street improvement project is one of the general work department's bigger projects, and includes a double two lane bridge which is 1.8 kilometres long and starts before the King Abdul Aziz square Abu Shagarah intersection, to the area further than Shaikh Jumaa Bin Mohammad Al Mutawae square.
The project also supplied the Abu Shagarah intersection with traffic lights and a three lane tunnel.
