Mohammad announces UAE Innovation Week in November

Government, private sectors and public urged to suggest innovative ideas

Dubai: As part of the UAE’s National Innovation Strategy launched in October last year by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Mohammad launched the Innovation Week to be held from November 22-28 this year. The event seeks to celebrate the best in ideas on innovation from the spectrum of government and private sectors, as well as from the public.

Speaking at the launch, Shaikh Mohammad said, “Innovation offers a new method of functioning for UAE’s vital sectors … we will assess the progress achieved in the adoption of this method through the UAE Innovation Week.”

“We have multiplied our investments in innovation, especially in terms of equipping and training our national cadres because keeping pace with the rapid changes taking place in the world requires innovative cadres and an environment that supports innovation,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

A committee comprising representatives of the federal and local governments and private sector will be formed to organise the UAE Innovation Week. The committee will be responsible for receiving ideas and coordinating all activities related to the week.

The UAE Innovation Week will witness the announcement of various government initiatives as well as events and activities by the government, the private sector and academic entities, including schools.

The week will also feature workshops, seminars and innovative laboratories that will help generate new ideas and re-evaluate innovations achieved during 2015, the Year of Innovation.

Activities during the week will include competitions, exhibitions and launch of national initiatives for innovation throughout the UAE.

Shaikh Mohammad reviews plans for the Innovation Week in the presence of Shaikh HamdanBin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the DubaiExecutive Council, and Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
