The humanitarian gesture brings relief to hundreds in Dubai prisons
Dubai: Dubai Police have stepped in to offer a helping hand to inmates, providing more than Dh6.5 million in financial and material support during the first six months of 2025.
The aid, totalling Dh6,599,116, was delivered through the Humanitarian Care Section in cooperation with several partners. It reached both male and female inmates at the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments.
Major General Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the department, praised the efforts of charitable organisations, community groups, and generous individuals who contributed to the initiative. He said the support reflects the strong values of compassion, solidarity, and second chances that lie at the heart of Emirati society.
“These contributions show how much people care,” Major General Julfar said. “They help ease the burdens inmates carry and remind them they are not forgotten. Everyone deserves the opportunity to turn their life around.”
He also thanked the private sector, philanthropists, and social institutions for standing by the inmates and helping them overcome challenges.
Major General Julfar highlighted the work of the Humanitarian Care team, recognising their dedication to providing full support — whether emotional, financial, or practical.
The financial help went toward several important needs: settling unpaid rent, paying for medical treatments, buying travel tickets for released inmates, covering school fees for children, and supporting various activities that brought happiness to the prison community.
“It’s not just about money,” Major General Julfar added. “It’s about hope, dignity, and giving people a reason to believe in a better future.”
