Abu Dhabi: Community participation is vital for consolidating national identity, said a senior official.

National identity can be defined as a common and collective feeling in any nation, which generates in citizens a feeling of attachment to their homeland, said Major General Nasser Salem Al Nuaimi, Director General of Minister of Interior's office.

He was presenting a paper on National Identity and Abu Dhabi Police Strategy in activating community participation at a symposium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

The two-day symposium on the role of security in consolidating national identity is organised by the Centre of Research and Security Studies at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters under the patronage of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.

Senior officials, academicians and experts from various emirates are attending the symposium, which will end on Wednesday.
