FNC secretariat releases report on legislative session

The general secretariat of the Federal National Council (FNC) yesterday issued a report at the end of the first session of its 13th Legislative chapter.

The report highlighted the FNC achievements and activities including deliberations on the draft laws, members queries to the ministers and the council's external activities such as visits, conferences and seminars.

"The FNC held 14 sessions between February 18 to July 8. It discussed 17 federal draft laws and forwarded 16 questions to ministers on the activities of their respective ministries. It also issued four statements on local, regional and international occasions," the report noted.

It added that the house standing committees and sub-committees had tabled 41 reports, referred them for discussion and reviewed 36 conventions and agreements sealed by the UAE.

"Ten new members have joined the house for the first time – five from Dubai, three from Ras Al Khaimah and one member each from Abu Dhabi and Ajman," the report said.

During this chapter, opened by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Saeed Mohammed Al Ghandi was elected new Speaker of the council.

The council discussed five public issues.

Other events attended by the FNC delegations included the 43th conference of Arab Parliamentary Union, held in Lebanon in June.
