Dubai Police have introduced a new flying ambulance service to transport premature babies to and from hospitals, said Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Shohi, Acting Director of Dubai Police Air Wing.

"The Airborne Infant Incubator may be ordered by any hospital in the UAE or through the Air Wing. The service is the first of its kind in the country," he said.

"The portable incubator in the aircraft is much safer than others built in ambulances.

"It is programmed to create optimal conditions through precise control of hood temperature and humidity by use of microprocessor. Double walls are also installed in its device part to minimise the effect of external heat loss on babies."

He added: "The built-in micro-computer system maintains the skin temperature at constant level by analysing the air temperature and humidity, which are the most important factors.

"The aircraft, which is equipped with other medical facilities can also transport other infants who are aged below five months or measure less than 55 centimetres long."
