Residents in Al Nakheel area say the noise from a brick factory keeps them awake all night. Saud Shaheen, a resident, said they have urged the factory to stop work at night, but it continues. All their efforts to negotiate with the factory have fallen flat.

The only solution left for the residents is to file a case at the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality to force it to stop.

Shaheen said the factory is located in a residential area and it is surprising how it got the licence to operate there. Also, it does not have a signboard. He said the residents have complained to the municipality by phone, but if no action is taken, they will go together to file a written complaint.

A senior municipal official said no industrial establishment is allowed to work during the night, especially those in the residential areas. He added the municipality will look into the matter and penalise the offenders.

The municipality has a plan to move all industries from residential areas to the industrial areas, and in fact moved many there. He said the municipality will not renew commercial licences unless the companies move out of residential areas.

They have prepared lists of the areas where no industrial activity is permitted.

Al Nakheel, a key commercial area, falls under this category. He assured the municipality will order the brick factory to move out of the residential area immediately.
