Abu Dhabi: Bangladesh is on its way of recovery after the recent security forces uprising that took the lives of at least 75 people, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to the UAE told Gulf News, amidst celebrations on Thursday to mark the 38th Independence Day of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador Mohammad Nazmul Quaunine said: "We are recovering slowly but steadily from the recent uprising. An investigation committee has already been formed that will look into the incident."

Community members in the UAE gathered at the embassy premises on Thursday to witness a flag-hoisting ceremony, which was followed by a short cultural programme by school children and salute of the martyrs of the Liberation war. A discussion to impart the essence of the day and its significance was also held.

Congratulating his fellow countrymen, Quaunine said: "Ours is a vibrant community here contributing significantly to the economy of both Bangladesh as well as UAE. I take this opportunity to convey my tribute for their hard work, and dedication. They remitted in 2007-2008 financial year over one billion US dollars."
