Etisalat introduces e-learning concepts to kids
Etisalat yesterday introduced the concept of distance e-learning at the school level via a video conference. The session was organised by the Sharjah Educational Zone in the Eastern Region at the Cultural Centre. Two public elementary schools in Khor Fakkan and another one in Dubai were linked under the project with Etisalat working closely with the Ministry of Education and Youth.
The session, attended by Khawla Al Mualla, Undersecretary at the ministry, and Ahmed Salem Al Mansouri, head of the zone, enabled pupils of two schools present at the Khor Fakkan Cultural Centre communicate with students of Al Mazhar Elementary School in Dubai.
Ten students in each venue took part in a play with cartoon characters designed to help them master the basics of physics.
Al Mualla said: "Earlier, the ministry stood alone in the huge mission of educating the new generations, but now we have the support of many local companies, especially Etisalat. Today's contribution is another example of Etisalat's awareness of the importance of upgrading educational progress."
The move is considered a major contribution from Etisalat to boost e-learning in the UAE and help the ministry adopt distance learning programmes at the school level.
Eid Obeid Khalfan, General Manager of Etisalat in the Eastern Region, said: "Video conferencing is an important tool in distance education. E-learning is, in fact, a global revolution that offers equal educational opportunities by sharing the wealth of information and knowledge among a large number of people.
"Today, Etisalat is delighted to apply the distance learning concept in reality. The fact that the Ministry of Education and Youth requested our support in this project reflects its commitment to help the education sector adopt the latest telecommunication technologies."
The two-hour session was also attended by senior officials from Etisalat and the ministry in addition to teachers.
