Schools help in proper battery disposal campaign
Dubai: Nearly 500 kilogrammes of batteries were collected and sent for proper disposal as part of an Emirates Environment Group (EEG) and Sanyo Used Battery Campaign.
So far this year EEG has collected 487 kilogrammes of batteries from schools. Sanyo also visited different schools to conduct presentations about the importance of protecting the environment against hazardous waste materials.
The top three schools with the most batteries collected are Dubai National School, Dubai Gems Private School and the Abu Dhabi Community School.
They were awarded prizes such as projectors and cameras.
Sanyo launched the Eneloop battery in 2006, an eco-friendly battery that can be recharged up to 1,000 times. It is resistant to self-discharge and comes with an eco-friendly packaging design.
