Dubai: Before carting off your valuable plastic bottles to the recycling bin, you could use them one last time by transforming them into a floating raft to compete in the second ‘Whatever Floats Your Boat' recycled boat race next month.

The InterContinental Hotels Group in Dubai Festival City is hosting the competition in association with Island Global Yachting (IGY) and Dubai Festival City on November 13.

Teams from local companies and schools are now busily constructing rafts made from recycled materials to race along the Dubai Creek, during a fun-filled afternoon at the Festival Marina.

‘Whatever Floats Your Boat' means just that, so participants can build whatever they fancy, the whackier the better, as long as it floats. Each participating company will make a donation of Dh10,000 to the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG).

Last year's inaugural event raised Dh100,000 for charity to help clean the Dubai Creek, but organisers hope that the event this November will raise the bar even higher.

The EMEG plans to use the money donated from this year's boat race to help protect the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtles.

Open to all

The event is open to all. For more information or if you would like to register a team, contact Anastasia Koriukova on 04 701 1071 or email Anastasia.koriukova@ichdfc.ae.
