Dubai: Heavy rain and lightning hit Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Jebel Ali on Wednesday night, catching motorists and pedestrians off guard.

The Met office said unstable weather could continue till Friday.

“Rain this time of the year is not uncommon, “said the duty forecaster in Dubai.

The unstable weather is due to moist air coming in from the sea mixing with the unstable atmosphere. Despite flooding of the streets residents were happy and many were seen walking in the ankle-deep water in some places. The rain helped drop the temperature further to 25 degrees Celsius.

The rain was not widespread and Abu Dhabi remained dry.
