Hazy weather forecast as strong winds whip up clouds of dust
Al Ain/Dubai: Forecasters warned there could be more rain this morning following drizzle in parts of the UAE yesterday.
Conditions are expected to remain cloudy for much of today because a trough - an elongated area of low pressure - is moving over the country.
Dubai, Al Ain and some eastern areas of the UAE received light drizzle yesterday morning and in many parts of the country conditions were hazy with strong dusty winds later on in the day.
Conditions yesterday were sometimes difficult for people walking out in the open and they were also tricky for drivers, who had to cope with the sand and dust whipped up by the strong winds.
According to the Meteorological Office, winds were blowing at between 14 knots and 20 knots yesterday, but they gusted at up to 28 knots at times.
Pleasant
In Dubai warm winds from the south saw temperatures reach as high as 32C, leaving people who spent long periods of time outside sweltering.
Today's maximum temperature in Dubai is expected to be much cooler at 25C, the drop attributed to a change in wind direction. Instead of winds from the south bringing in hot air from the desert, the winds today will come from the north-west, bringing cooler sea air that will be more pleasant for those venturing outside.
Chris Worger, duty forecaster at Dubai International Airport, said any rain today is likely to have cleared up by late morning.
The clouds are likely to linger for slightly longer than the rain, although the skies are expected to clear gradually as the day goes on.
The minimum temperature in Dubai yesterday was 18C, while for today forecasters are predicting a minimum of 20C.
