Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has donated $1 million (about Dh3.67 million) to the UAE Centre for Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at Beijing University.
The donation was announced by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, during his current visit to China, when he paid a visit to the centre and inspected its departments.
The centre, which is located in the heart of the Chinese capital city was set up and financed by the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan upon his visit to China in May 1990.
Foundation
The foundation stone of the centre was laid in 1992.
Built on an area of 4,100 square metres, the five-storey centre consists of more than 50 rooms and halls and can accommodate more than 200 male and female undergraduates and around 140 post-graduates.
It also boasts of a Shaikh Zayed conference hall and Shaikh Khalifa auditorium.
Activities
The centre is concerned with teaching Arabic language, conducting researches and studies on Islamic affairs as well as studying the historic relations between China and Arab countries.
