Dubai: Two warehouses for storing food supplies were destroyed when a fire broke out before dawn in the Al Quoz industrial area on Monday.

"The moderate fire broke out at around 2:26 am in two warehouses and it was controlled from spreading to nearby warehouses within two hours of continuous fire-fighting," Colonel Ahmad Al Sayegh, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Civil Defence told Gulf News

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the cooking oil stored in these warehouses ignited the fire and made it a tough battle for the firefighters, said Col Al Sayegh.

No injuries were reported but the two warehouses belonging to the same company were completely destroyed, he said.

Controlling the fire within the warehouse took a couple of hours, he said.
