Dubai all set to host eighth Arab Media Forum
Dubai: The preparations for the eighth Arab Media Forum, scheduled to be held from May 11 to 12, have almost come to a successful close, said a statement from Dubai Press Club.
The forum will be held at Atlantis Hotel and is expected to be attended by over 600 prominent media persons from all across the Arab world and outside.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress, Maryam Bin Fahd, Executive Director, Dubai Press Club, said the forum this year coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Press Club.
"It was in 1999 that the Press Club was established as per the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The purpose was to develop a dynamic platform for media development activities for the Arab world. The Arab Media Forum, Arab Journalism Award and the Arab Media Outlook play a significant role in achieving the original Objectives,'' she said.
Maryam said the number of participants from outside the UAE has reached 300, representing 27 countries within and beyond the Arab world. "Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Mauritania, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, Malaysia, the US, Great Britain, China, France, Italy, India and Russia are among the countries that will be represented at the forum," she revealed.
Ahmad Raisi, Events Manager, Dubai Press Club, revealed that well over 1,000 participants have already been registered to attend the event, including 57 speakers, 11 moderators, 300 foreign participants from abroad and 600 from the UAE.
"We are glad that almost all the media organizations in the Arab world will be represented at the event, besides all the foreign media in the UAE. A number of prominent media personalities from abroad have also confirmed participation," he said.
Raisi also said the media centre at the venue has also been finalised, ensuring that the journalists who come to cover the event will find all the support they need, be it in terms of information and logistics or access to the prominent guests for interviews. "One important thing that I would like to share is the active voluntary support we received from media students at the universities in the country. They have given us full support, joining the team at the Press Club and becoming a part of them," he said.
Arab Media Forum, held under the slogan 'Arab Media: Weathering a Period of Change and Crisis' will include a number of workshops and sessions, featuring eminent experts who will debate some vital issues that concern the media in the region in the present circumstances.
