The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) hosted another group of seven participants in the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
The contestants competed before a five-member panel of judges that recorded the remarks of each contender.
More than 400 people enjoyed the young readers' recitations of the Holy Quran on Thursday. The judges were strict, and at each mistake, a member of the panel would ring a bell announcing the mistake.
Hassan Abdo Hassan, 19, from Yemen, who is currently studying medicine at Taiz College in Yemen, said Egyptian Shaikh Mohammad Ahmad Al Duraidri taught him the Quran in two years and his father encouraged him to do so.
The Ministry of Awqaf (Islamic Endowments) in Yemen chose him from among 200 contenders to represent his country in DIHQA.
"I heard about DIHQA from a Yemeni competitor who ranked second in a previous edition. It is a nice gathering for Muslims from across the globe. The Quran is our book and constitution and we must memorise it."
Another competitor from Tunisia Fareed Bin Amr Saidani, 15, said he memorised the book at the age of 14 after starting at age 9.
"DIHQA is the best Quran recitation contest that a Muslim could participate in because of the excellent level it has reached."

The head of the PR department and welcoming committee at the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD), Captain Omar Al Shamsi said the department is sponsoring DIHQA following the directives of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, to all government departments to support such activities.
"DIHQA has become a centre for Muslims from around the world to gather and read the Quran. It unites Muslims from different cultures, from Arabic and Muslim countries. Khalifa Rashid Bin Deemas of the Dubai Public Prosecution, said DIHQA has become one of Dubai's milestones".
