Crystals find way into distinctive collection of jewellery

Strands of sparkling crystal beads made into fashionable jewellery have caught the fancy of many women this year. Beaded bracelets and necklaces in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes are being worn as trendy accessories.
Inspired by the fashion and guided by her artistic experience of crochet and painting, Minal Khimji has designed a distinctive collection of beaded jewellery. It's unique because of her creative use of Austrian crystal beads by Swarovski and semi-precious stones in her beadwork.
Minal's hobby began as a whim of personal attraction to crystal bracelets and the inability to purchase the kind of style she preferred.
"I wanted to wear them, but couldn't find what I liked in the shops. Since I have always liked working with my hands, I decided to create them myself," she says. That was four months ago.
As she gifted her family and friends with her handmade creations, appreciation for her beadwork spread. People from Dubai, Oman and Mumbai requested more, and so she continued to string beads.
Such that she holds a personal record of stringing 90 bracelets in one day.
Her handmade beaded jewellery have also been featured in photographs of the forthcoming issue of fashion magazine, Elle. "Now I can make woven bracelets, necklaces, chokers, rings, evening bags and even accessorise outfits with crystal beads. My next project is starting a
website called "Strung for You", says Minal.
