Two jailed for drug consumption by Fujairah court

Fujairah: An Emirati and a Moroccan national were both jailed for four years after the Fujairah Appeal Court upheld a conviction for drug consumption against the pair.

The two men lost their appeal against an earlier conviction by the Criminal Court of consuming drugs after they both tested positive for a band substance.

Anti-Narcotic police first arrested Moroccan, Y.D., after a tip off led to a house search which revealed a drug substance hidden inside a pillow case.

During police questioning, Y.D. admitted he bought the drugs from Emirati, A.J., who was duly arrested.

Following the urine test, the two suspects were charged with possession and consumption of drugs.

The Fujairah Criminal Court cleared the pair of possession charges but convicted them on charges of consumption and jailed them for four years.

Moroccan Y.D. will also be deported after serving his prison term.
