Two jailed for stealing charity boxes
Ras Al Khaimah: The Misdemeanour Court sentenced yesterday two people without documents to a year in prison each for stealing charity boxes kept at the entrances of groceries.
A senior court official said the two suspects, both 20 years old, were caught red handed while stealing a charity box.
The official added that the grocery owner noticed the two suspects lifting the charity box. The suspects tried to run away but two Pakistani customers caught them and the grocery owner reported the case to the police.
Police detained the two suspects who denied the charges but the market owner and two eyewitnesses testified against them. The police accused the two suspects of similar thefts of charity boxes elsewhere, and referred them to the public prosecution.
