Two Arabs accused of credit card fraud

Abu Dhabi: Al Ain Police have arrested two Arab suspects who allegedly used fake credit cards to buy jewellery and several items costing Dh150,000 in Dubai and Al Ain in collaboration with partners from different Arab countries.

The Al Ain Directorate received information about the two suspects who allegedly used different fake identities and credit cards, to purchase jewellery from a variety of stores in the UAE.

Hamad Ajlan Al Amaimi, director of Al Ain Police Directorate, said: “Based on the information which we have received and in collaboration with the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation Command of Dubai Police, a team was formed to arrest the perpetrators, who have targeted several shops in malls, possessing nine personal national IDs besides nine credit cards.”

“One of the stolen credit cards belongs to an American woman, who didn’t visit the UAE and had no clue about purchases,” Al Amaimi added.

Additionally, Al Amaimi pointed out that after investigations, a number of perfumes, gold jewellery and 25 credit cards were found in the suspect’s apartment and the pair have been referred to the public prosecution.

Al Ain Police have urged the public to keep their credit cards safe so they don’t face fraud and report immediately if they are lost or stolen at the nearest police station.
