Dubai Six members of a gang have been each jailed for two years after a court convicted them of stealing a safe containing Dh324,000 in cash and confidential documents.
The Dubai Court of First Instance accused 29-year-old Indian worker, B.H., of masterminding the whole heist. Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout also convicted five other Indian suspects, aged between 23 and 41, of aiding and abetting B.H. in carrying out the crime.
Prosecutors charged B.H., who worked for an electronics company, with stealing a safe containing Dh280,000, $12,000 (about Dh44,000) and Chinese money plus confidential papers including five contracts, three chequebooks, a commercial licence and other documents.
The judge said all the accused will be deported after the completion of their jail terms.
The company's Iraqi manager testified that he discovered the theft.
"B.H. was to have arrived to the company ahead of me because he used to open the doors.
His mobile phone was switched off when I phoned him… my office door was open and I realised that the safe got stolen. Police informed us that they arrested the suspects two weeks after I reported the incident."
