Dubai: A salesman faces three months in jail for stealing lingerie from the store where he once worked, a court ruled.

The Dubai Court of First Instance found the 30-year-old Kenyan salesman guilty of stealing the underwear after his 32-year-old Filipina supervisor caught him red-handed.

The supervisor testified in her statement that she spotted the accused, O.D., trying to conceal the underwear in his socks.

"I didn't steal anything. I work there and I was just checking the item," argued the accused when he defended himself in court.

The Public Prosecution charged O.D. with attempting to steal the innerwear from his workplace in the Mall of the Emirates.

"I saw him hiding the underwear in his socks inside the storeroom... he claimed that it belonged to his colleague who asked him to hide it for her.

"The colleague denied his claims when I checked with her. Then he admitted that he stole it and we agreed that he inform the manager," said the supervisor.

The primary judgment is subject to appeal within 15 days.
