Policeman denies stealing belongings
Dubai: A policeman has denied that he unlawfully kept in his possession a suspect's personal belongings which were confiscated when the suspect was questioned, a court heard.
Records said the 26-year-old Emirati policeman collected the Asian suspect J.K.'s personal belongings when he was brought for police questioning and unlawfully kept them in his possession without returning them to J.K. who was released later.
"I didn't do it... I am innocent," said the policeman, M.M., when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
The Public Prosecution charged M.M. with embezzling J.K.'s belongings, which he allegedly kept at his house.
An Emirati police captain told the public prosecutor that J.K's belongings included money and jewellery.
The trial continues.
