Police subdue gold shop robbers in mock drill
Ras Al Khaimah: Major General Shaikh Taleb Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, on Monday attended a mock drill involving an armed robbery and hostage-taking.
A tip off about a robbery attempt in a jewellery in Al Muaireed Gold Market that the Police Operation Room received triggered the drill. The burglars were unidentified, armed and held numerous hostages.
The forces concerned were alerted and they converged on the scene, equipped with contemporary gear.
State of alert
The team managed to control the situation, evacuate civilians from the scene and surround the place in the required and correct preventive formation.
The drill ended successfully in the capture of the potential burglars, freeing of the hostages and adherence to the necessary medical procedures.
Shaikh Taleb said that the police preventive wing is in a constant state of alert to face any eventuality following the directives of Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.
Shaikh Taleb stressed on the necessity of practice drills that can enhance the image of competence and preparedness of the police force.
He appraised the level of qualification the police force affiliates have reached in responding to crimes, preventive action, deterring criminals and contributing to a crime-free society.
