Ras Al Khaimah: Police sniffer dog Johnny has a serious nose for crime.

The crime-busting canine helped police solve the mystery behind an attempted break-in at a house in the wee hours of the morning, an officer said on Sunday.

Colonel Khaled Al Merri, Head of the Ras Al Khaimah Police K-9 Unit, said police received a call Sunday around 3.45am from a man saying that an unknown assailant donning a mask over his face was prowling outside his home.

The resident said that the assailant had just jumped over the outside fence and was about to sneak into the house from a window, but he scared off the intruder who quickly fled the scene.

Police from the K-9 team, assisted by criminal investigation officers, were dispatched to the scene of the incident.

Police dog Johnny quickly tracked down the would-be intruder.

The dog, “located the suspect in less than 10 minutes of reporting the incident after he followed the suspect’s footprints. The suspect was found hiding behind a wall in an area that was difficult to access,” Col. Al Merri said.

The suspect then surrendered.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect was violating the UAE residency law and has a criminal record.

The case was referred to the public prosecution for further action.

Police K-9 'Jonny' reached to the suspect’s place in less than 10 minutes after reporting the incident.
