Man sold fake sex stimulants, Sharjah police say

Sharjah: Police on Saturday arrested an Arab man they said tried to sell more than 62,000 fake sexual stimulants worth Dh4 million.

Sharjah Police said the medicines were being promoted by a group of people who phoned people at random to ask if they were interested in buying the products.

A police spokesman told Gulf News that police had arrested the group of people who allegedly promoted the products, including 62,740 fake Cialis tablets, 5,632 fake Viagra tablets, plus ointments, sprays and other products designed to act as sexual stimulants.

"The group of promoters were putting stickers of popular brand names on the products, and fooled people into believing that they were legally imported into the country," the policeman said.

He said police were given a tip-off about alleged fake products by a pharmaceutical company, which informed them the goods were being promoted and that they posed a potential health hazard.

Sharjah Police said they formed a team to identify the suspects involved.

By setting up a trap, police said they identified the main suspect, A.Y.A., an Arab man, accused of attempting to sell some of the products for $10,000.

Police said the suspect confessed to them that he was trying to sell five cartons of fake Cialis and Viagra that he had stored in his Al Buteinah unit.

The case has been referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
