Dubai: Prosecutors are investigating a man who is reportedly suspected of raping his five-year-old twin nephews.

The twins’ mother complained to the authorities about the alleged incident when she discovered her sons behaving indecently.

The mother told police when she scolded her children they said they were doing “what their uncle did to them every time they visited their father.”

“The mother is said to have divorced her husband because he is gay. She had sex with him twice and after which she got pregnant and had the twins. The father’s homosexual and effeminate behaviour pushed the mother to claim a divorce before a Sharia court. The mother was granted the divorce and custody of the twins. However, she went ahead and reported the matter to the police as soon as she discovered that her ex-brother-in-law had been supposedly abusing her children sexually,” sources close to the case told Gulf News.

The uncle, who is in his early 20s, is currently under investigation.

The twins were taken to a government hospital for a check-up which confirmed they had been subjected to a sexual assault.

However, the uncle has denied what he described as the “mother’s unfounded and fabricated allegations.”

Gulf News has learnt through prosecution sources that the twins are being examined by the Public Prosecution’s social workers and psychologists as their mother says they have been acting abnormally.

Sources close to the case said: “It’s believed that the suspect used to take the twins to a room and abuse them after taking off their clothes. Investigations haven’t confirmed whether the father was aware of what his children were being subjected to every time they stayed with him.”

Prosecution sources confirmed to Gulf News that an investigation is under way but no formal charges have been pressed against the uncle yet.

“A forensic examiner didn’t confirm that the twins had been raped, however, the authorities are still waiting for more results from the forensic laboratory,” said the source.
