Man on trial for attack on babysitter

Dubai: A sales executive is standing trial for attempting to molest a babysitter who was looking after his children while his own wife was giving birth.

The 35-year-old Sri Lankan suspect, A.C., denied the charges and pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

His 22-year-old compatriot babysitter, A.S., testified that the defendant lured her into the children's room, locked the door and tried to molest her.

The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with luring the babysitter into the children's room where he locked the door and kept the key in his pocket before attempting to molest her.

A.S. told the public prosecution: "I agreed to look after the children whose mother was delivering a baby in hospital. The suspect locked himself and me in the children's room of his house in Jumeirah. He walked towards me and hugged me against my will and tried to molest me. I pushed him back, cried and asked him to open the door. Then I phoned my husband and informed him what happened."

Fourth time

The babysitter's 25-year-old husband, S.A., said he waited for the suspect until he returned home to confront him. "He refused to return home and confront me until I warned him that I will tell his wife. He begged me not to do so. When he didn't show up, my wife and I went to the hospital. She said that it was his fourth time that he did such a thing."

"When my wife and I went to hospital to report that incident to the suspect's wife, she expressed her sorrowfulness."

Prosecution witnesses will give their statement in court, which reconvenes soon.
