Man and woman killed in horrific road accident in Dubai

Dubai: A man and a woman were killed in a horrific road accident on Emirates Road on Sunday night. Police had reported 10 deaths in road accidents during the National Day and Eid Al Adha holidays.

Police said the Arab man identified as M.M. was speeding on Emirates Road near Muhaisna Bridge heading toward Sharjah, he lost control and swerved to the right, crashing into a truck that was parked on the side of the road.

As a result of the impact, the driver and a woman accompanying him were killed on the spot. Dubai Police rescue teams arrived on the scene and cut the victims free with hydraulic equipment.

"I saw the car trapped under the truck and knew it was not a minor accident. I was sure it had claimed lives. Speeding really kills and those who say it thrills, it is only for a few seconds," an eyewitness said.

Dubai Police's Traffic Department issued 11,074 traffic fines plus 735 fines for jaywalkers and confiscated 37 cars and 14 buses. Traffic patrols also issued three fines on motorbikes and 26 fines on buses for violating traffic rules.
