Dubai: An unemployed man has been accused of molesting a 15-year-old schoolboy and attempting to rape him in his bedroom after threatening him with an axe.
The 30-year-old Emirati man was said to have stopped the Pakistani schoolboy outside his parents’ house at midnight and asked to accompany him to his bedroom on September 22.
The boy and his parents lived in a two-bedroom majlis that they rented from the Emirati’s sister.
As soon as they entered the bedroom the defendant asked the boy to remove his clothes, according to records. When the boy refused the Emirati beat him on his leg with the axe handle and forced him to undress.
The suspect entered a not guilty plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
Prosecutors have asked for the life sentence to be implemented against the defendant, according to article 355 of the Penal Code.
The schoolboy told prosecutors that the defendant took him by surprise and forced him into his bedroom in Al Muhaisnah.
“My family rents a majlis adjacent to his sister’s villa. He was under the influence of liquor. He took me inside the bedroom and ordered me to remove my clothes. When I refused he beat me with the axe handle on my leg… When he failed to rape me, he molested me,” said the boy.
The father testified during prosecution questioning that he woke suddenly when he heard his wife and children shouting.
“My wife informed me that the suspect had molested and abused our son. I did not find the suspect in his bedroom. My son cried and claimed to me that he was scared to death when the suspect threatened him with the axe.”
An Emirati lieutenant told prosecutors that the defendant, who has a criminal record, was arrested in Mirdif.
Presiding judge Urfan Omar said the court will appoint a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes on February 10.
