Abu Dhabi: A man arrested for repeatedly stabbing his wife in the Capital Mall on Monday afternoon told police that he suspected she was having an affair.

The 61-year-old Pakistani man reportedly attacked his 40-year-old Filipina wife before security personnel intervened. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The woman was working at a beauty booth in the mall when the attack happened at around 3.30pm.

CCTV surveillance footage showed the man looking for his wife at her usual post and then calling her repeatedly on her mobile phone.

On returning to her post, the woman explained that she was using the bathroom, but her husband leaves and returns with a butcher’s knife he allegedly stole from a shop.

The suspect told police that he suspected his wife of having an affair  with an Asian security guard working in the mall. He said photos on his wife’s phone confirmed his suspicion and led him to attack her.

The police also arrested the security guard.
