Jail and Dh200,000 fine for killing a child in road accident in Fujairah

Fujairah: A Pakistani man is jailed for three months and ordered to pay Dh200,000 to the family of a seven-year-old child killed in a car accident.

The Fujairah Appeal Court upheld a lower court ruling against S.A. for causing the accidental death of Emirati child M.S.M as he attempted to cross the road with his family.

The fatal accident happened in October on Mohammad Bin Matter road in Fujairah.

The seven-year old suffered extensive head injuries and died some eight hours later in the intensive care unit in Fujairah Hospital.

The driver was convicted of causing the accidental death as a result of careless driving, driving with excessive speed, damaging the vehicle he was driving and not adhering to traffic laws.

Farm theft

In a separate case, the Appeal Court reduced the jail term of a man convicted of stealing 30 bags of palm dates from one year to just three months.

A.M. was arrested following police investigation into the theft of the farm produce in Dibba.

The accused admitted to police during interrogation that he stole the 30 bags of palm dates from his sponsor's farm.

He was charged by the public prosecution of theft and entering the farm without due consent.

The Fujairah Criminal Court found him guilty of both charges and jailed him for one year.

A.M. decided to appeal the length of the sentence and Appeal Court ruled in his favour by reducing his jail term from 12 to just 3 months.
