Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested multiple individuals involved in violent disturbances that erupted after the recent UAE Pro League match between Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli football clubs.

The arrests were confirmed by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, who stated that immediate investigations were launched following the match. Authorities used surveillance footage and video analysis to identify those responsible for post-match altercations and public disorder.

“Legal action has been taken against the individuals involved, and they have been referred to the competent authorities,” Major General Al Ghaithi said.

Emphasising the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment at sporting events, he urged all football fans to avoid fanaticism and unruly behaviour.

“Sport is meant to bring enjoyment and encourage healthy competition. Fans must show mutual respect and reflect the values of the UAE, especially as we continue to host world-class sporting events,” he added.

Major General Al Ghaithi issued a stern warning against conduct that undermines the spirit of sportsmanship, stressing that stadiums should remain venues of joy, not conflict. He praised the efforts of Dubai Police teams in ensuring the safety of stadiums, managing crowds, and securing vehicle movement around sports venues.

“We will continue to take legal action against anyone who violates security or fan behaviour regulations,” he said.

Disciplinary action

In a parallel move, the UAE Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee imposed fines on both clubs involved in the incident.

Shabab Al Ahli Club was fined Dh70,000 for fans verbally abusing rival supporters and throwing water bottles onto the pitch and into the crowd.

Al Wasl received a Dh80,000 fine after fans ignited a smoke flare, hurled offensive chants, and threw objects toward the pitch and opposing fans.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement of stadium regulations to protect the integrity and enjoyment of the game.
