Court ruled that the defendant’s failure to return the money constituted a legal fault

Al Ain: Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a woman to repay Dh 8,000 along with an additional Dh 1,000 in compensation for financial and emotional damages, following a dispute over funds collected under an informal savings group.
Court documents show that the defendant received the amount from the plaintiff as part of a rotating savings arrangement, commonly known as a “jam‘iyya,” but failed to return the money.
The woman cited delayed payments from other group members and personal hardship due to her father's illness as reasons for the default.
She denied any intent to defraud and expressed no objection to repaying the amount, though she rejected the claim for damages.
However, the court ruled that the defendant’s failure to return the money constituted a legal fault, leading to financial losses and emotional distress for the plaintiff.
In addition to ordering repayment and compensation, the court also imposed legal fees and expenses on the defendant.
