Abu Dhabi: Two employees of Al Dhafra Court of First Instance were presented cash awards and also given promotions for their courage in restraining a man in a murderous rage who stabbed a Nepalese man, L.K., to death during a hearing last Tuesday.

The cash awards and promotions were ordered by Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, in recognition of the courage and dedication shown by the employees in pinning down the killer in the courtroom.

Shaikh Mansour praised Mohammad Ahmad Al Mazroui and Nazeer Mohammad Sa'ad for their courage and quick thinking to subdue B.A., an Arab.

"The killer, holder of a karate black belt and expert in martial arts, attacked L.K. with a knife during the hearing inside the Al Dhafra Criminal Court's room and then chased him outside and stabbed him more fatal stabs," the under-secretary of the department, Sultan Saeed Al Badi, said.

The killer had earlier pleaded that he was acting in self defence after he was brought before the court on charges of causing permanent disability to one of the eyes of the Nepalese man.

Investigations revealed the same suspect had killed yet another man immediately before the hearing.

He later admitted to both murders.
