'Celebrating' his way to prison

Dubai: A man who was acquitted of drunken driving earlier celebrated the best way he knew: by drinking alcohol.

Only this time lady luck ran out. He was put behind bars. The Dubai Court of Misdemeanors sentenced the Arab man to a month in jail after he was caught drinking when he went to celebrate what he deemed as "a victorious ruling" after the Appeals Court recently acquitted him of driving under the influence of liquor.

A police patrol busted the accused drunk and referred him to the Public Prosecution. The arraignment sheet mentioned that he had been earlier acquitted of drunken driving and fined Dh1,000 for consuming liquor. The Dubai Court of Misdemeanors sentenced the accused, identified as A.A., to a month in jail.
