Authorities arrest man employing illegal maids

Dubai: The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department arrested a Pakistani man who had employed 12 absconded housemaids.

The housemaids were arrested while he was driving them to their workplace in a rented van, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Salem, assistant of the director general for follow-up and investigating affairs.

He said the accused used to put an advertisement at supermarkets offering part-time housemaids for those who needed them.

"The accused used to drop the absconded housemaids from the place where they stay to the place where they work every day," he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Salem said they received a tip-off that he was employing absconded housemaids. "He was arrested red-handed with the absconded housemaids, whom he used to find jobs for in return for Dh500 from each one of them," he said.
