Unlicensed injections sold for Dh20,000 to Dh25,000
Abu Dhabi: Police have detained a woman who is accused of selling medical cosmetic products without a medical license.
Meanwhile, Public Prosecution has sent the products to a forensic laboratory to determine their ingredients and whether they fall under those that cannot be sold without medical supervision.
Public Prosecution had received a complaint from the Ministry of Health regarding a woman who was promoting and selling imported injections that make skin fairer.
The suspect confessed to importing the injections from Asian countries, and said that the ingredients include vitamins, antioxidants, and glutathione — a chemical used to cleanse the liver.
The suspect also confessed to obtaining the injections from websites and receiving them through shipping services, then got in touch with customers through her Blackberry phone. She would then deliver the products with the help of an accomplice. The suspect alleged to buying injections for a price of Dh6,000 per box and selling them to customers for approximately Dh20,000 to Dh25,000.
The accomplice confessed to delivering the products to customers, claiming that he did know what they were. He said he took Dh30 for each delivery, adding that his visa is not on the former suspect, which means he does not violate the rules of the Nationalisation and Residency Department.
A Public Prosecution official has urged residents to be careful when purchasing medical products as they could include harmful and even carcinogenic ingredients.
