17 workers' death sentence appeal hearing adjourned

Sharjah: The appeal against death sentence handed over to 17 Indians found guilty of killing a Pakistani man, has been adjourned by Sharjah Court of Appeal to June 16, Gulf News has learnt.

The Sharjah Sharia court of First Instance had  found them guilty of beating a Pakistani man to death and wounding three others when a fight involving dozens of bootleggers broke out in the Saaja industrial area in January last year.

The appeal was adjourned to assign a translator who speaks Punjabi.

The translator previously assigned by the court speaks Urdu.

The Indian Consul general offered to provide a Punjabi translator.

Two lawyers representing the men appeared in the court on Wednesday; one of the lawyers is representing 16 of the accused, while the other is representing one man.
