Dubai: Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) will distribute free of cost hundreds of ‘Personal Connectors’ among people with special needs, the DCD announced on Thursday at Gitex Technology Week.

Personal Connectors are tiny devices with mobile chips that can help track the movement of people using them while also enabling them to seek instant emergency services at the push of a button.

“The device is specially designed for people with special needs and elderly, who need constant attention. They can use this device to call their family members or emergency services by just pushing a button on the Personal Connectors,” said Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director General of DCD.

The device has a string attached to it and can be worn around the neck so that it is with the user at all times. The device helps users communicate with civil defence or their families in case of emergencies.

All people with special needs can get the device free of cost from DCD, while others can buy it for around Dh250.
