Region’s biggest endurance run sees record participation

Dubai Chad Lasater wins the 24th Salomon Wadi Bih Run for the second year in a row.

The region’s biggest endurance trail run took place on Friday and Saturday, with a record total of 192 solo runners and 279 relay teams of five.

The 72km popular course traverses from the Dibba coastline in Oman through the dramatic Wadi Khabb Shamsi to an altitude of over 1000 metres.

Team Ignite Fitness won the relay, which was finished by 235 teams.

Taking place since 1993, the annual 72km relay continues to be extremely popular.

“The 24th Salomon Wadi Bih Run was once again a brilliant sporting weekend in a spectacular setting, with beautiful weather, great camaraderie and some fantastic running times. It’s been great to see such a wide range of ages and nationalities come together to enjoy the outdoors, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year,” said Event Director Neil Young.

The winning team, Ignite Fitness, crossed the finishing line in a time of 04:47:52, and included runners Paul Drury, Youssef Rodkhi, Grant Beerling, Myriam La Mure, and Latifa Essa Rokh.

The 50km team relay event, a favourite for families and school teams, was won in a time of 04:04:57 by team L’equipe à Robert, formed of Arnaud Moreau, Laure Jardy, Martin Jover, Mathias Gaimard, and Marine Berard.

A record 78 runners ran the full 72km solo race, with 2015 winner Chad Lasater winning the males category again in a time of just 05:40:46, and Gerda Steyn winning the female category in 06:16:04.

The 50km solo race was won by Jeremy Curran and Yasmin Wadhai won the female category.

The 30km solo race, which was only introduced last year, was completed by a record 68 runners and was won by Johan Anderson and Natalia Roman Lopez won the female category.

The 24th Salomon Wadi Bih Run 2015, which took place over Friday 5th and Saturday 6th February, was the biggest endurance trail run in the GCC, with a record total of 192 solo runners and 279 relay teams of five running the popular course, which traverses from the Dibba coastline in Oman through the dramatic Wadi Khabb Shamsi to an altitude of over 1000m.
