Dubai: Motorola has launched a tablet computer that can be dropped from up to four feet in height and withstand temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius.

Hozefa Saylawala, regional sales manager at Motorola, said yesterday that the new tablet was aimed at companies and businesses such as the health care, logistics, retail and hospitality sectors.

"Most of the technologies coming out are targeted at consumers and no serious thoughts are given to enterprises. So we at Motorola are giving a new focus to enterprise solutions," Saylawala said.

The product will be available by end of this year. The price has not been revealed.

The 7-inch ET1 tablet is powered by dual-core 1GHz processor and has 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of flash storage and runs on Android 2.3 operating system.

It has 8MP back camera and 1.3MP front camera. It weighs just over one kilogram.

Military standards

The device is made to military standards and can survive the rough and tumble world outdoors like rain or dust.

He said the interesting features that make it stand out from the crop of current tablets are enterprise software (security, software utilities, barcode decoding), stylus support, signature capture, removable battery and multiple passwords for point of sales for uninterrupted work.

"We are also introducing the tools in an application development strategy to help reduce the impact of operating system disruption and ease the pain of migration from legacy solutions to the next generation of devices and apps. It will allow swift migration to new platform using HTML 5," he said.
