eSys Technologies, the Singapore-headquartered IT group, is setting up a PC plant in Jebel Ali, which will have a capacity of 400,000 units annually.

Investments, including working capital requirements, will be in the range of Dh50 million, a top official said.

It will target the Middle East, Pakistan and some of the European markets.

With India to reduce import duties on PCs to zero starting in the next financial year beginning April 1, 2005, the Dubai facility will also cater to that market.

This will be the group's second biggest facility the one in Singapore has a capacity of 3 million PCs a year.

With the consolidation of its manufacturing operations from Singapore and Dubai, eSys will be shutting down its facilities in the Czech Republic and China, while downsizing the one in India.

eSys, which is also a distributor of IT components, made the breakthrough into the Middle East last year by shipping out sub-Dh1,000 PCs running on the Linux operating system.
