Abu Dhabi: The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) here is finalising a policy to promote the use of energy efficient LED (light emitting diode) lights in streets and buildings across the emirate.

The LED lights will minimise energy consumption by 30 to 40 per cent, a senior official said at DMA's stall in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) here on Monday.

"The LED lights are eco-friendly as they will minimise the heat generated from lighting," said Abdullah Al Shamsi, acting executive director of municipal infrastructure and assets sectors.

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is showcasing four vital projects in the exhibition, namely, surface drainage; improvement of irrigation and landscaping networks; and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

They will focus on energy conservation and environmental protection.

The participation of the municipality in WFES comes in the context of its strategy to protect the environment and promote sustainable development and utilisation of resources, the officials said.

The projects are particularly relevant in the context of the accelerating development taking place in the emirate that involves effective tackling of all environmental concerns, they said.

The project showcased by the municipality includes surface drainage of Al Bahia and Al Sadr localities, improving irrigation and landscaping networks including seven parks on Abu Dhabi Island.
