Scott Gillman, his team mate Thani Al Qamzi and the entire Emirates team have a score to settle with Guido Cappellini in Qatar during the fourth round of the F1 powerboat world championship.

Cappellini, an Italian, is leading the championship but during the last round in Singapore Cappellini collided with Gillman and both men had to be rescued.

Gillman was leading the race when Cappellini side-swiped him, rolled and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The incident sparked a furious debate about Cappellini's tactics and race officials gave the reigning world champion a red card. A red card is issued when a driver does something deemed to be dangerous and the result is a ban for one race.

The furore would have ended there had the race (UIM) officials not made an incredibly bad error and implemented the rules incorrectly.

At a UIM hearing Cappellini was cleared to race in Doha on Saturday and Sunday because the UIM referees posted the red card after the official race results were finalised. Cappellini escaped on a technicality and everyone in Emirates team, especially Gillman are livid.

"I'm the one that got shafted the most through the whole thing," said Gillman prior to a practise run at the Abu Dhabi Marine Club.

"Obviously Guido did things that were very wrong but the referees from the UIM in the end have to apply the rules correctly.

The incident has made the governing body look silly but Gillman, and the Emirates Team, have been left in the worst position.
