F1 championship highlight of Water Festival

Dubai: The eighth and final round of the UIM F1 World Powerboat Championship will be the highlight of the 2008 Sharjah-etisalat Water Festival that will be held from December 2-13.

Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), announced an ambitious programme centred around the ninth running of the Sharjah F1 Grand Prix race.

On offer as part of the festival will be the Stars of Florida Ski Show, twice daily from December 2. Later in the evening, the Aqua Fantasia will be held.

"The highlight will definitely be the final round of the F1 race and we are thrilled to see yet another world champion being crowned here," stated Shaikh Sultan.

The annual Sharjah Water Festival - a joint venture between the SCTDA and etisalat - is held under the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, with sponsorship from Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

Jay Price of the Qatar team leads the world championship with 85 points after six rounds. Jonas Andersson of Sweden is second.

The penultimate round of the UIM F1 World Powerboat Championship will be held this weekend at the Abu Dhabi breakwaters.
