Guangzhou: The UAE added a second silver medal in team jumping at the 16th Asian Games here on Monday.

Shaikh Juma Bin Dalmouk had become the first UAE medalist on Sunday when he took the silver behind India’s Ronjan Sodhi in the men’s double trap shooting.

And on Monday, the UAE team of Shaikh Rashid Al Maktoum, Shaikha Latifa Al Maktoum, Shaikh Majid Al Qasimi and Ahmad Al Junaibi did just enough to finish with the silver medal following a tense jump-off against Hong Kong after being tied with 11 points at the end of the second round at the Guangzhou Equestrian Venue here. Saudi Arabia claimed the gold medal, while Qatar had to stay content with the fourth spot.

"This is an amazing feat from the UAE and we hope we can build on this for the future. My congratulations for such a fantastic achievement from our athletes, including Shaikh Juma who put us on the winning path on Sunday,” Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain, Secretary General, UAE National Olympic Committee UAE told Gulf News.

“We hope our athletes will carry forward this momentum and we will take home many more medals,” he added.

Silver medalists Latifa Al Maktoum, Rashid Al Maktoum, Majid Al Qassimi and Ahmed Al Junaibi of the United Arab Emirates pose on the podium during the medals ceremony for the equestrian jumping team at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou on November 22, 2010. Saudi Arabia won gold ahead of United Arab Emirates for silver and Hong Kong for bronze.
