Dubai: Four US high school basketball teams will take on Middle East and North African (Mena) opponents in the first annual MPAC Elite International Basketball Championship at Dubai’s Al Shabab Club from June 14 to 21.

Montverde Academy, Florida, Huntingdon Prep, West Virginia, Lone Peak, Utah and Simeon, Chicago, will take on four Mena opponents in the Dubai Sports Council event. The tournament will be broadcast live on Abu Dhabi Sports, Dubai Sports and Sharjah Sports TV and entry is free for spectators.

The four participating US teams have an impressive track record of promoting players to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and organisers have suggested that future stars could also be on display at this tournament.

“We are thrilled at the fact we have been able to pull off this historic event by hosting the top players from America and are equally thrilled about gathering the top talent from the Mena region to join us in Dubai. This will be a basketball showcase unlike anything this region has ever seen,” said Luqman Rashad, the founder and executive director of MPAC Sports Basketball.
